MLK Weekend | 5 Reasons to Visit Bluefin Bay

12/29/2023

The weekend of January 12-15 marks the arrival of Martin Luther King, Jr. Weekend. If you haven't yet decided on your plans, why not make your way to Minnesota's North Shore for an unforgettable family getaway? Despite the lack of substantial snowfall, there are still so many adventures and activities to partake in during your stay at Bluefin Bay Family of Resorts. Plus, the unexpected weather has brought some delightful surprises. Witnessing the waterfalls and swift rivers in full force has been amazing!

5 reasons to plan a getaway for the holiday weekend:

  • Indoor Fun and Cozy Crafts: No matter what the weather is like, our indoor pools and hot tubs at Bluefin Bay and Surfside are a favorite winter activity. In addition, Bluefin Bay guests can relax in the heated outdoor pool and hot tub overlooking Lake Superior.
Feeling creative? Join us for an artsy experience painting a mini canvas or learning the art of candle making.
Are you looking for indoor fitness options? Continue with your regular yoga practice while on vacation or give it a try if you are new to it. All skill levels are welcome, and mats and props are provided. We also have you covered for those who want to keep up with a regular fitness routine while on vacation! Bluefin Bay offers two fitness centers with an elliptical, treadmill, stationary bike, rowing machine, a multi-gym, and free weights with bench. Surfside has a fitness center with a treadmill, elliptical, stationary bike, and free weights with bench.
Live Music! After a day of adventure, wind down at the Bluefin Grille with live music from 8-10pm on Friday, January 12th and Monday, January 15th.

  • Outdoor Resort Activities: Ice Skating: Lace up a pair of complimentary skates and glide along the rinks at Bluefin Bay and Surfside. These rinks are beautifully lit in the evenings, and for added warmth, there are cozy campfires nearby to keep you toasty. In addition, guests can use hockey equipment, broomball equipment and skate trainers at no extra cost. Ice rinks will remain open as long as temperatures are below 32 degrees.
Nightly Bonfires: Experience the perfect end to your day by gathering around a crackling bonfire under the stars, listening to the waves of Lake Superior while delighting in yummy s’mores.
Guided Resort Hikes: Winter hikes provide the perfect opportunity to see far through the woods, spot wildlife, and view the beauty of Lake Superior and the inland Sawtooth Mountains from breathtaking overlooks. We offer several guided hikes, including transportation, to some of the best hiking routes in the area. This winter we’ve had the added bonus of viewing some awesome waterfall action during our hikes. The combination of frozen river edges and rushing falls has been spectacular!

  • Winter Picnic: Join us for a winter picnic on Saturday, January 13th next to the ice rink at Bluefin Bay! We’ll have food and drinks for purchase, live music and bonfires.

  • Lutsen Mountains: Looking for snow? Head to Lutsen Mountains, where they’ve been busy making lots of snow for the alpine and snowboard enthusiasts. Open daily! Hop on the complimentary ski shuttles offered daily from Bluefin Bay (ages 7+).

  • Great Offers! Enjoy MLK Weekend for less with great offers.
MLK Weekend Last Minute Vacancy: Receive 20% off lodging in any room style.
