Winter Activities Update: Skiing, Shoeing, and Skating

March 13, 2017

With the ever-changing Minnesota weather, winter sports can be up in the air. We’re here to share the good news: the snow is still here!

The ice rink here at Bluefin Bay is operational and ready for hockey and open skating! With a recent cold snap, we’ve been able to add more ice and it’s smoother than ever.

If you’re a cross country skiier, the Sugarbush Ski Trails are still operational and functioning. The conditions are fast, the classic tracks are intact, and the skate lane is groomed nicely! With the warmer weather and longer hours of sunshine, you can spend more time on the trails and perhaps explore some of the far reaches of the trail system.

Snowshoeing has for the most part, transtioned to hiking. All hiking trails on the Superior Hiking Trail are open and ready to use! The trails are a bit icy, especially in the shade, but the Activities Department has complementary ice grippers for use by our guests. These little things make a giant difference when hiking on slippery conditions.

Lutsen Mountains is also open for fun. All runs are open and snow is being made daily! So don’t forget those alpine skis when you’re planning your visit!

We look forward to seeing you on the snow!
