Weekend here! Update on fall colors, Unplugged Festival and more…

September 15, 2011

Our fall activities are in full swing. Join us for a guided hike, a bike ride along the Gitchi Gami, or a fun outdoor or indoor kid’s activity. Oh, did we mention leaf peeping?! Lots of leaf peeping. Colors are starting to turn at the tops of the trees inland. Fall peak is expected in the mountains in about a week or two. But we’ll have good color for several weeks. Check DNR fall color report here. Check the Bluefin Bay Family of Resorts fall activities schedule here.

Unplugged X: The Northern Harvest. Tonight the fun begins in neighboring Grand Marais harbor for the greatest fall festival in the Midwest! NPR’s Mountain Stage is here for concerts tonight and tomorrow night to benefit our beloved North House Folk School. Artists and musicians from around the country are in town, the big show is sold out for Saturday night but for more information and tickets for tonight’s show – click here.

How is the forest fire affecting us in Tofte at the Bluefin Bay Family of Resorts? NNW winds have pushed some smoke our way this morning from the Pagami Creek fire in the BWCAW. The good news is that according to the weather forecast, a shift to S SW winds should bring clear skies later today and through the weekend. Forecast looks beautiful for the weekend. Fall is in the air!

For those interested in staying up to date on the forest fire, here is a link that provides the most up to date information. Our friends at Sawbill Outfitters on the Sawbill Trail – the closest entry point into the BWCAW from Bluefin Bay also provide a daily blog update. We invite you to check it out here.
