Temperance Landing summer – A bit quieter pace

Temperance Landing SummerWhat a beautiful summer morning at Temperance Landing! This morning’s walk around the property was a reminder that — of the three Bluefin Bay resorts in the family — Temperance Landing has a bit slower, more laid-back and quieter pace.

The rocky beach at Temperance Landing is the perfect place to enjoy morning coffee. Perch yourself on a big rock and take in Lake Superior’s expansive beauty. This morning Temperance was sunny and serene. The Temperance Landing Summer Beachbirds were chirping good morning as gentle Lake Superior  waves lapped softly at the shoreline under the warm July sun.

Temperance Landing joined the Bluefin Bay Family in 2006. The property is nestled on the edge of Lake Superior and set against the backdrop of the Sawtooth Mountains in Schroeder, MN. And, yes, it gets its name from nearby Temperance River State Park.

Luxury log homes on Lake Superior

Temperance Landing ResortIf you don’t know Temperance, you’re in for a treat. Our Temperance Landing three-story log homes boast two-and-half-story vaulted ceilings, Ponderosa Pine log walls, a grand ledgerock stone fireplace, a whirlpool tub, granite and tile shower, a grand porch overlooking the lake, and incredible Lake Superior views!

The three-bedroom, three-bathroom log homes are warm and inviting, and a great way to escape from our hectic — and maybe somewhat crazy right now — lives.

The sheer size and character of these log homes, as well as the breathtaking location, make them feel more like a solo rental you might find on VRBO. But, guests at Temperance Landing also get the benefits of the Bluefin Bay Family of Resorts amenities, including access to the Surfside pool, hot tub, sauna and fitness area, plus complimentary outdoor equipment and guest activities. (That’s if you can break away from your perch on the rock enjoying your coffee by the big lake!)

Families, groups of friends and couples’ groups love Temperance Landing as it comfortably sleeps 6-8 people. There is plenty of quiet space, as well as “hang-out together” space. In fact, each couple can have their own floor! The full kitchen, dining area and grand porch overlooking the lake also make it great for entertaining.

Off the beaten path in Temperance Landing’s backyard

For guests who want to avoid people and explore the quieter, off the beaten path version of the North Shore, Temperance Landing is perfect. The resort is steps from the Gitchi Gami Bike Trail where you can hop on the trail and go (by bike or foot) all the way to Bluefin Bay (about 3 miles) and beyond.

A lovely walk or ride along the Gitchi Gami takes you to Temperance River State Park — which is less than a mile from the resort. Be sure to leave time to hike along the Temperance River and explore this great state park. [Note: This one does get a little crowded in the summer.]

Father Baraga’s Cross is another gem off the beaten path that is less than .25 mile from Temperance Landing. From Temperance, walk to Baraga Cross Road and then meander the .25 mile to the breathtaking Lake Superior shoreline where you can explore. A giant granite cross commemorates missionary Frederic Baraga’s safe passage across an angry Lake Superior in 1846. Read more here.

A new ownership duo for our beloved resorts

Bluefin BayOur beloved Bluefin Bay Family of Resorts is officially under new ownership. We’re pleased to report that Silver Bay native, Joe Swanson, and his business partner, Pipasu Soni, are the new owners of Bluefin Bay Resorts, operating under the management company, BFB Management, LLC.

Dennis Rysdahl, co-founder and 36-year owner of Bluefin Bay Resorts, will remain in a leadership and advising role for a year or more until his official retirement.

In planning for his succession, Dennis sought to find a buyer who would carry on the legacy of first-rate lodging and amenities, warm and friendly hospitality, and the high quality of guest service for which the Bluefin Bay brand is known. For Dennis, that also meant developing the Resorts’ leadership team and selecting an owner who would continue the longstanding commitment to the Bluefin Bay staff, owner partners, and the local community.

“I knew when I saw Joe Swanson’s name on the list of potential buyers that he was one of us. He shares a history here, as well as our core values and commitment to the community. Pipasu Soni’s resume and skill sets are also exceptional. I’m confident we’ve selected an ownership team that is deeply committed to continuing the Bluefin Bay tradition of creating memorable vacation experiences for guests for years to come,” Dennis said.

New owner has North Shore roots and a love for Bluefin Bay

For Joe Swanson, owning Bluefin Bay Family of Resorts is a dream come true.  A Silver Bay native, Swanson worked at Bluefin Bay for seven years during high school and college in housekeeping, dining, and maintenance positions.

Now a 401(k) and business advisor in the Twin Cities, when Swanson saw the resort for sale, he immediately contacted his friend and business partner, Pipasu Soni, to discuss the idea. Pipasu is chief financial officer for Winnipeg-based NFI Group, a bus and coach manufacturer. He previously served in several finance roles with U.S. Steel. The duo met through their wives who were friends and their children went to school together. Likewise, Joe and Pipasu became fast friends and eventually business partners.

“We’re deeply committed to advancing the culture and reputation of Bluefin Bay Family of Resorts developed by Dennis and his team,” Swanson said. “The Bluefin Bay team is the best I’ve ever met, bar none! That’s a tribute to Dennis’ leadership and hard work to create a community and experience beloved by so many.”

“We’ve had great success over the last two years building a capable and committed leadership team in preparation for an eventual sale, and the new owners will retain that team. I have a high degree of confidence that the operations of the resorts will continue to thrive,” Dennis confirmed.

Join us in congratulating and welcoming new owners, Joe Swanson and Pipasu Soni! And, thank you to co-founder Dennis Rysdahl for his vision, leadership, careful planning, and tireless commitment that has made the Bluefin Bay Family of Resorts what it is today.

We are proud that Bluefin Bay has always operated like an extended family, where we care about and take care of each other and take great pride in creating memorable vacation experiences for our guests. Today, we welcome two new owners to that extended family who share that commitment.
