Bluefin Bay Wins Best of the Lake!
Forgive us, but we need to toot our own horn for a moment, and more importantly, say thank you to our fans and guests.
Bluefin Bay on Lake Superior has been named 2018 Best of the Lake in the overnight lodging category, as sponsored by Lake Superior Magazine. The magazine’s “Best of” award covers all lodging options from Duluth to the Canadian border and, more importantly, it’s a readers’ choice award. This is the second year in a row Bluefin Bay was chosen the readers favorite in this category!
Awards like this one – where fans and guests vote for their favorite or the best – mean the most to us because our guests’ loyalty and confidence is the best barometer of our success creating memorable vacation experiences. So, THANK YOU to all who voted for us – especially our Bluefin Bay Family of Resorts guests for your ongoing loyalty, comments and kudos over the years.
We are also excited about a few other winners from our neck of the woods.

So again, thank you. We hope you’re having a great summer.
Lake Superior storm packed a powerful punch this weekend
Wow! An early summer storm on Lake Superior this past weekend has Gooseberry Falls raging with the river spilling over its boundary, a huge ship pulled off course in Duluth, and roads washed out from flash flooding in Bayfield, Wisconsin, and the Upper Peninsula, Michigan.
This past weekend’s storm was far from epic, but if you were in Duluth for Grandma’s Marathon or visiting the North Shore, you likely experienced some heavy rains, serious wind and flash flooding. And while the storm may not have been intense enough to make the record books, it did not pass without notice or drama.
In Duluth, strong currents and heavy rains brought the American Spirit, a 1,004 foot fully loaded freighter/ship, way too close to Duluth’s break wall and the Paulucci Building!
If you were hiking in the Two Harbors area, perhaps you saw the raging Gooseberry Falls with the river spilling, spewing and spitting over its boundary. View live video from a tourist here (credit Lauri E. Olspon-Hohman).
Around the area
In Bayfield and Ashland, WI, several roadways were washed out, including parts of Highway 2. Storms washed out roads in Houghton and Hancock in the Upper Peninsula.
