THANKFUL: Feeling Grateful in November

November is here. The cool weather and snow have already stopped by for a visit and this year we are embracing winter a little earlier than normal. It’s time to get excited about wintertime fun!

Here are a few reasons we wouldn’t want to be anywhere but on Lake Superior’s North Shore during November:

  • THE GALES OF NOVEMBER! Wave watching in November and December when the gales whip up the lake is a favorite activity by guests and locals alike. When nature puts on a show, you want a front row seat and there is no better place to watch the Gales roll in than from the Bluefin Bay Family of Resorts. Check out one of our recent blogs on the famous Gales and our special lodging offers.
  • LUTSEN MOUNTAINS IS OPENING! The early snowfalls and lower temps have been optimal for the snowmakers on the ski hill. Lutsen Mountains is currently planning to open for skiing on November 18th! Gales of November: Front Row Seats!

Witnessing the “Gales of November” is one of the iconic experiences on the North Shore of Lake Superior. Fall is coming to an end and as the cold, dry air from the north meets the moist, warm air from the Gulf the big lake becomes the battleground of these two opponents. The result is the best rink-side show you’ll see this year. Wind speeds often reach 50 mph with gusts that have been known to exceed 70 mph. You’ll be mesmerized as the huge waves repeatedly crash into the shore.

When nature puts on a show, you want a front row seat and there is no better place to watch the Gales roll in than from the Bluefin Bay Family of Resorts. When you stay three nights at any of our resorts — Bluefin Bay, Surfside or Temperance Landing — on the November & December Gales Special, one of those nights of Lake Superior splendor is our treat!  Stay three nights and receive one of those nights FREE (midweek night is free)! Offer valid now – December 24, 2017.

Relaxing in your accommodations at Bluefin Bay Family of Resorts and watching the waves roll in is a favorite activity this time of year, but November is also a fantastic time to go hiking. The leaves are off the trees and our favorite summer/early-fall trails take on a whole new look with the ability to see much deeper into the forests. You will also find a wider, unobstructed view at the overlooks. Join one of our guided hikes or stop at the front desk for local maps and directions. Warm up with other resort activities like yoga, winery shuttles and a campfire with s’mores.

November is also host to some great local events:
