Cross-countryskiing: With more than 400 km of Nordic ski trails in Cook County, you’ll never run out of places to explore. Check out complimentary cross-country ski equipment and explore the area trails at your leisure or join one of our free guided ski excursions.
Snowshoeing: Winter hiking is at its best up here. Explore the great North Woods with our complimentary snowshoes. Ask for a trail map at Guest Services or join one of our free guided snowshoe hikes.
Downhill Skiing & Snowboarding: Bluefin Bay offers complimentary shuttles to Lutsen Mountains Lutsen Mountains is the biggest & best ski resort in the Midwest. Check out our Ski & Stay Packages to get the best deal on ski and snowboard vacations.
Ice skating rinks at Bluefin Bay and Surfside are a hit with families and friends alike. Check out a pair of complimentary ice skates at Guest Services. We also offer hockey nets, sticks and pucks to sign out. End your skating time at one of our evening bonfires complete with s’mores…of course!

Creative Kids Club – Join us as we get crafty building birdhouses and decorating them with a variety of craft supplies! Parents are encouraged to join in on the fun!
NEW! Craft Mini-Courses: We are excited to offer new mini-courses onsite as part of our resort winter Activities program! The courses are completely free and will introduce guests to the element of Northern craft. In February and March, we’ll be offering an Intro to Alcohol Ink Painting Class.
NEW!Fiber by the Fireplace: Join us at the Bluefin Bay guest services lobby for a relaxed evening with like-minded fiber artists! Bring a project you are working on and gather around the fire with a local fiber artist to share stories, work on projects, and soak up creative inspiration from others. All levels and abilities are encouraged to bring your fiber projects like knitting, crochet, needlepoint, etc. If you do not have a project to bring you can still join and learn the art of Kumihimo – a Japanese form of braiding! Our visiting local artist will also bring needles and hooks to use, plus yarn for sale if needed.
Yoga: Offered on Wednesday and Saturday mornings and all levels encouraged to attend.
North Shore Winery Shuttles: If trying a new wine is more your idea of adventure, hop on a complimentary shuttle and head to North Shore Winery for a tasting & Shuttles available daily when the winery is open.
Livemusic at the Bluefin Grille on Mondays and Fridays from 8-10 pm.

Lake Superior kayaking, wilderness canoeing, inland kayaking (New this year!), bike trips, a large variety of guided hikes, kids activities, North Shore Winery shuttles, and morning yoga are all available during your stay.
Sign-up Online with Eventbrite!
We have now made it even easier to sign-up for your favorite activities! The Eventbrite platform is a simple way to sign up for activities using your computer or mobile device. You can also use devices that are conveniently located right in the resort lobby. When searching for activities on the Resort Activities & Events calendar you will find the sign-up link located at the bottom of the activity description. This link will take you to the activity on the Eventbrite site. From there, search for the correct date/time, enter your name, contact info, and lodging confirmation number to hold your spot. We hope this will make it easier and faster to plan and sign-up for activities during your North Shore vacation.
In addition, we also have activities that do not require you to sign-up ahead of time. Evening North Shore Naturalist programs, evening Wolf Ridge Raptor program, campfire music by the beach, and the Friday afternoon ‘Meet Hunter The Owl’ visits are available to join without signing up.

Gliding along the water in a canoe or kayak is an ideal way to de-stress and connect with the natural world around you. Our guided Wilderness Canoeing on the Poplar River and our Lake Superior Kayaking Trips are the perfect way to experience the magic of paddling. Our experienced guides will provide you with all the equipment and instruction needed for a memorable and safe trip on the water.
Wilderness Canoeing: Our Wilderness Canoeing Experience on the Poplar River has become a guest and staff favorite. Along with your guide, we will shuttle you to the Poplar River in Lutsen, hike about a quarter of a mile to the canoes, and paddle two miles along the beautiful Poplar River. No past canoe experience is needed and children as young as five can participate. The trip is leisurely, scenic, and within the whole family’s capabilities.
Kayaking: Lake Superior offers one of the most incredible sea kayaking experiences available between the two coasts. Paddle along the scenic shoreline of Lake Superior with one of our expert kayak guides. You will see a sea cave and multiple waterfalls, not to mention the wildlife! Lake Superior could be calm like glass or have choppy waves, we will go regardless, (as long as we deem the conditions safe) in order to provide guests with a full Lake Superior experience. Our expert and certified guides will provide you with full instruction and equipment you need. Kayakers of all skill levels age 12 and up are welcome.
