Bluefin Bay Fall Colors Report: Up to 30% turned to fall color inland. 10% Fall color along Lake Superior.
For this week’s Fall Color Report we visited two of our favorite spots to check on the colors: Oberg Mountain and the Poplar River trail at Lutsen Mountains. Visit our Fall Photo Gallery to see the variety of fall colors that we came upon.
We are still only at about 10% fall color right by Lake Superior at Bluefin Bay Family of Resorts, but there are many spots of beautiful bright color appearing farther inland. Depending on where you go you’ll see about 25-30% fall color. The fall color drives are fun this year with so much variety of color! We’re predicting the next couple weeks will be the height of fall colors in our area.
On the Oberg Mountain Loop, we spotted areas of Maples at their peak and some just starting to turn red and orange as we looked further inland from the breathtaking overlooks that this hike provides. Areas closer to Lake Superior were still predominantly green. A few pops of yellow showed that the Birch and Aspen are starting to turn but peak colors are yet to come.
We also visited a section of the Superior Hiking Trail by the Poplar River at Lutsen Mountains. This area was still fairly green but showing some signs that fall is here with areas of full color as you trek further up and behind the ski hill area. One awesome activity to add to your fall North Shore vacation itinerary is a ride on the Summit Express Gondola to Moose Mountain for a one of a kind autumn leaf viewing experience.
