09fd420d6bb37a69360804dedafc064aAt one point in time (or perhaps many), we have all stared lovingly at the North Shore landscapes and wished that we could take that view home with us. Well, for the members of the Grand Marais Art Colony, it’s as simple as that! A hub of artistic energy, the Art Colony is known locally for its fantastic workshops, artist talks and demonstrations. And, If you happen to be staying at the Bluefin Bay Family of Resorts this week, you won’t want to miss a unique opportunity to interact with some of the talented members of the Art Colony.

From September 9th to 16th, the Plein Air painting competition will send local painters into the most scenic areas of the North Shore. There, they will set up their easels and canvases, brandishing their paintbrushes and allowing the natural scene to inspire their creativity in the typical “plein air” fashion. A bit of an artist yourself? You’re welcome to register with the Art Colony and partake in the competition. If you left your brushes at home, you are still welcome to witness some of the fun during their scheduled public events, which can be found on the Visit Cook County webpage.

As a special note, our very own bike mechanic Jon Kallberg will be providing musical entertainment at the North Shore Winery from 4:00 to 7:00pm during a plein air demonstration!

Arriving late? Don’t worry; art from the competition will be on display at the Art Colony until November 13th. No matter when you are staying, we hope you enjoy this beautiful opportunity to capture the sights of Lake Superior’s shoreline.
