While all of the cross-country ski trails are currently groomed and in good condition for classic and skate skiing, some people are a bit more adventurous and take to the rivers in the Lutsen Tofte area for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.
During Bluefin Bay Family of Resorts winter activities , we’ve stuck to the Sugarbush trails for our cross-country ski tours, but for the snowshoe tours we’ve opted for something a little different to enlighten our guests – river snowshoeing.
Last week the guests headed up the Onion River, and today our guests will go to Caribou Falls up the Caribou River. Snowshoeing on the river offers a unique experience and our guests are loving it. A variety of animal tracks can be found while venturing on the frozen river, including deer, wolf, otter, bobcat, and many more.
Pictured right is Caribou Falls, which is wildly flowing for 3 seasons out of the year, but a frozen layer lines the top in the winter time. The river can still be heard rushing underneath
