Independence Day celebrations will look different this year across the country. Most cities or communities have been forced to cancel or rethink their July 4th plans in the wake of Covid-19.
Unfortunately, this includes our little community of Tofte on Minnesota’s North Shore.
The Tofte July 4th celebrations have all been cancelled this year, including: The Tofte Trek Trail Run, the parade, beer garden, live music, spaghetti dinner at Zior Lutheran, and, yes, the fireworks. 🙁
We know this is a disappointment to many of you — we’re disappointed, too! We hope you can understand that decisions were made by local leaders for the protection, health and safety of all.
Bluefin Bay Family of Resorts July 4th Festivities
That said, the Bluefin Bay Resorts team has created a fun and full day of activities for our guests. Please join us for the July 4th Medallion Hunt, Cornhole Tournaments, BBQ by the beach, and more. Yes, we’ve got great prizes!
Learn more and sign up to participate on our Resort Activities & Events Calendar. All July 4th activities will operate under current health and safety protocols.
July 4th Activities Schedule:
July 4th weekend is also a great time for hiking, biking, canoeing, kayaking, swimming, exploring nature, having a picnic, agate hunting or rock skipping on the beach, and simply marveling at Lake Superior. All of those activities are indeed still on!
We know many of you are interested in seeing fireworks over the BIG lake. As of now, the closest fireworks display is planned in Grand Marais Harbor.
We expect there to be a crowd in Grand Marais for the fireworks so, if you plan to attend, our advice is to go early and be prepared to stay in your car or safely social distance.
Have a happy, health and safe July 4th everyone!
Entry deadline extended to August 31, 2020
For 25 years, we’ve been producing our annual wall calendar highlighting the natural beauty of the North Shore — as seen through the eyes and photographic talents of our guests. Today, we’d like to extend a very special thank you to everyone who has shared their beautiful photographs and North Shore vacation memories with us over the years.
The 26th Annual Bluefin Bay Family of Resorts Calendar Contest is underway for the 2021 calendar. In a year, where we’re craving comfort in the familiar and too many things seems on pause, who couldn’t use a beautiful calendar to remind them of their favorite spot?
So, we’ve extended the calendar deadline this year to Aug. 31, 2020 and we’re looking for submissions.
As in previous years, this year’s Calendar Contest covers all three Bluefin Bay Family of Resorts — Bluefin Bay, Surfside and Temperance Landing – and the surrounding area. Hint: We’d love to see photos from Surfside and Temperance Landing in addition to Bluefin Bay, and in all seasons.
Anyone is eligible to participate, and each participant may submit up to a maximum of eight images. We
require both print and digital files for calendar judging – full contest rules can be found here.
Cool Prizes? Of course!
In addition to bragging rights and seeing your image in our beautiful calendar distributed to more than 16,000 guests, each monthly winner receives a $200 Bluefin Bay Family of Resorts gift certificate. The Grand Prize winner receives a $1,000 gift certificate that can be used for dining or lodging at Bluefin Bay Family of Resorts. In recent years, we’ve had so many fantastic entries we’ve also selected some Honorable Mention winners who appear in the calendar.
So, what are you waiting for? Gather those prize images, mark them so we have your name and contact information, and mail them in! We hope to see your entry soon.
Top Right: 1) Grand Prize 2020 – Jon Sehlin, 2) May 2020 Winner – Jonathan Mortenson
The most frequently asked question we’ve received from guests over the past month: “When will the pools open?” We now have an answer!
The indoor and outdoor pools, hot tubs, saunas, fitness areas and Waves of Superior Spa are all now open – under current MN Department of Health restrictions. Yes, we can hear the cheers!
Capacity at each facility is limited according to the MN Dept. of Health. For the health and safety of all, we ask guests to please adhere to maximum capacity limits and the safety protocols in each area.
Pools, Hot Tubs & Saunas: Signage at each pool and hot tub area indicate the maximum number of people that can be in the area/facility at one time. Please adhere to maximum capacity signage, as well as physical/social distancing guidelines (stay 6′ or, one moose, apart) when on pool decks and platforms and in the water.
Showers & Changing Rooms: Our showers and changing room areas have also re-opened and we’ve increased cleaning frequency and rigor. That said, some guests may still prefer to shower and change in their respective rooms to minimize contact.
Fitness Areas: Our fitness areas have re-opened, but these areas are small and capacity is lower for fitness centers. We ask guests to adhere to max capacity guidelines posted on the signage for each facility. If an area is already at max capacity, please plan to come back later.
Waves of Superior Spa: The spa is also now open to guests by advance appointment only, and with limited capacity and services. Guests must make appointments in advance and only those with spa appointments are allowed in the spa at one time. Masks are required to be worn in the spa, including during treatments.
At this time, we have resumed 60-minute massage services. Facials and other skin care services, and nail services are not available currently.
To learn more visit our Stay Safe Waves of Superior Spa page here or call 218-663-6888. We have limited staff available at this time so if you get the voicemail, please leave a message and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
For other questions regarding our sanitation procedures, safety protocols and resort services, visit our Stay Safe 2020 page here.
We thank you in advance for your understanding, patience and cooperation.
Grille & Coho hours change, add outside dining
As many of you know, the State of Minnesota opened up outside dining for restaurants as of June 1. There is still no in-house dining in restaurants and no indication of when it will be allowed.
Here’s an update on our Bluefin Bay Family of Resort dining hours, options, and safety protocols as of June 1, 2020:
The Coho Cafe & Bakery is now open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily for counter service of to-go or takeout orders and outside dining. Our front outside patio and side/back deck seating is available only after you order at the counter. Social distancing and safety protocols apply to counter service and outdoor seating areas. Signage directs guests how to order and dine under our new outside dining protocols.
Coho Cafe has added new summer menus:
To order, stop in for counter service
or call ahead at 218-663-8032.
Coho Cafe is temporarily closed to in-house dining by order of the State of Minnesota and will re-open when allowed. In the meantime, we’re working on additional outdoor seating and policies to make the in-dining experience safe when the Cafe reopens.
The Bluefin Grille is now open from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. daily for curbside takeout, room delivery, and very limited outside deck seating (weather and space permitting). The Grille’s lakeside deck seats very few guests with new social distancing requirements, so we encourage takeout and room delivery until we build a new outdoor seating area.
Guests are also welcome to dine with takeout at any open picnic table or outside dining space around the resort properties — remember the social distancing rule of at least six feet — or one moose — apart!
To order takeout or room delivery from the Grille click here:
Spring/Summer Online Menu or call 218-663-6220.
We are building a NEW outdoor dining space in front of the Bluefin Grille with an expected completion date of mid to late June. This will provide additional outdoor seating to accommodate more guests, since in-restaurant dining space will be limited even when it resumes. We’ll share progress on the new outside dining space and keep you posted here on the I Love Bluefin Blog and on Facebook and Instagram.
Waves Cafe at Surfside: At this time, we do not plan to open Waves Cafe at Surfside this season due to Covid-restrictions and limited staffing. We’ll let you know if that changes.
Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding as we implement these new safety protocols and dining options. These are challenging times and our aim is to provide quality dining options and menu choices under very strict safety protocols and staffing challenges.
