In a world that feels so uncertain, we’re all craving comfort in the familiar.
One thing that has not changed since Covid-19, is the beauty and majesty of Lake Superior. We’re fortunate to have this breathtaking BIG lake with endless views in our sights every day! It gives us peace of mind and we never take that for granted.
If you’re craving some time with Lake Superior herself, we’ve got the deals to welcome you back:
Stay with Peace of Mind
We all know things will look and feel different in a Covid-19 world – both for our staff and our guests. We appreciate your cooperation, patience and understanding as we navigate this new landscape together.
Please take a few moments to review our cleanliness and sanitation practices, safety procedures and resort service changes in response to Covid-19 on the Stay Safe 2020 tab on our website. We’ll update this page frequently as things change, so check back often.
We’re here to welcome you back safely, when you’re ready to enjoy the breathtaking views and miles upon miles of hiking, biking, nature trails and wide open spaces of the North Shore.
Stay safe. Be well.
New safety protocols to help keep you safe & healthy
Spring has finally sprung, summer is on its way, and this is the perfect time to explore our breathtaking North Shore by foot, bike and kayak! We’ve heard from many guests who have “cabin fever” and can’t wait to get out and enjoy the North Shore trails and open spaces.
We get it, and want to help you adventure safely. Here’s some helpful information about how to enjoy your favorite resort activities safely this spring and summer. Our aim is help you explore the North Shore safely — whether that’s venturing out on your own or joining one of our guided activities.
Guided Activities: Hiking in May; Biking, Kayaking, Yoga & More by June
Hiking: We’re offering a range of “socially distanced” guided hikes in May, with more in June and beyond. The waterfalls are gushing and it’s a great time to hike — though hiking boots may be required. Check our Activities Calendar for scheduled hikes.
Guests who join resort guided hikes should know a few things about our safety protocols. We’ll be asking guests to drive to the trailheads, rather than taking the Bluefin Bay shuttle, if possible. We’ll have room in the shuttle for up to one family group of four people. This will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis and participants riding in a Bluefin Bay shuttle van will be required to wear masks. You can bring your own or we’ll provide them.
Biking: We’ll be starting guided biking tours on area trails in June. In addition, we’ll offer our popular Temperance River Bike and Hike — a 2.1-mile ride along the Gitchi Gami State Trail, combined with a short hike along the Temperance River, and back to the resort. Check our Activities Calendar for specific bike excursions, dates and times. Social distancing protocols are in effect.
Again this year, we’ll be offering both inland kayaking and Lake Superior kayaking adventures. We’ll also be offering our popular Wilderness Canoeing activity on the Poplar River. Since our canoes and inland kayaks are two-person tandems, we’ll require that you tandem only with another person from your family group. We’ll also observe the more than 6 feet — or one moose apart — social distancing rule both while getting fitted and while out on the water.
Yoga: Who couldn’t use a little yoga these days for stress release? We’ll be offering more yoga classes than usual this spring and summer, and we’ve moved them to the Surfside ballroom to allow for more social distancing between participants. Check our Activities Calendar for more details.
Kid’s Adventure Club: Our planned kids’ adventures encourage curiosity, exploration and fun. This program offers a variety of activities from nature walks, to field games, to agate hunting on the beach. We invite parents to join in on the fun. Social distancing will be practiced during these activities. Parents are encouraged to join the fun.
Not comfortable in a group just yet – adventure on your own!
Our staff will be available to recommend areas to explore on your own and to supply maps and directions should you prefer to go solo. Bikes and tennis racquets will be available for checkout with our safety protocol in effect.
We look forward to helping you get out and enjoy the Lake and the North Shore this spring and summer.
The most frequently asked question we’re getting of late is: “Are you open? And, usually, it’s followed by: “We can’t wait to come back!”
Yes, all three Bluefin Bay resorts — Bluefin Bay, Surfside, and Temperance Landing, are now open to guests. It was a long April, and we’re thrilled to welcome you back to the North Shore just as Spring has sprung – with gushing waterfalls, warmer days, and everything beginning to bloom!
We know you trust us to be a safe home away from home. We appreciate your loyalty and look forward to welcoming you in the tradition of our unique brand of warm and friendly hospitality.
We all know things will look and feel different in a Covid-19 world – both for resort guests and staff. We appreciate your cooperation, understanding and patience as we navigate this uncharted landscape together.
The Bluefin Bay team has been working behind to scenes to modify public spaces and adopt best practices in our day-to-day operations in accordance with the Centers for Disease Prevention & Control (CDC), the World Health Organization (WHO), and state and local health officials.
We’ve created a special web page where you can learn more about our Stay Safe 2020 Initiative, including changes to resort services. Things are changing quickly, so please check back often for the latest updates.
Guest Services Hours & Reservations
Our Guest Services and reservations line has new hours. It’s staffed daily between 7 a.m. and 11 p.m. Please call our reservation line — 1-800-258-3346 — between these hours if you’d like to make a reservation or change an existing one. Also, be sure to check out our latest offers here.
Restaurants and Dining
Perhaps the next most frequently asked question is about dining. Both the Bluefin Grille and Coho Cafe & Bakery are open for curbside takeout and room delivery only. Coho Café is open daily from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the Grille is open daily from 4-8 p.m. We’ve increased outside dining spaces and picnic tables around the resorts, and we’ve added Family Style dinners at the Grille. Check out our menus here:

We are so very grateful for your ongoing support and loyalty, including your enthusiasm to engage with us online during these uncharted times. THANK YOU!
This past month, we’ve been bringing Bluefin Bay Family of Resorts and spring on the North Shore to you — virtually. So many of you have engaged with us online — and though it’s not the same as seeing you in person — we love seeing your photo and video memories. Keep them coming!
If you haven’t yet done so, check out our Virtual Bluefin page for the latest Show & Tell Challenge, and our Facebook and Instagram pages for live videos, photos and updates.

In this strange and stressful time, it’s been uplifting to hear from so many of you who have taken the time to say “hi” or “we’ll see you soon.” Stay safe and be well. And yes, we hope to see you soon!
P.S. In case you missed the April sunrise from the bay – here it is again for your enjoyment!
Say Thank You With a Bluefin Bay Gift Card & We’ll Toss In a $25 Dining Coupon
A mother’s role is unique, valuable, never ending, and, often, just hard. Moms solve problems, balance priorities, juggle activities, and give continually. Often we unknowingly expect them to do this without showing their stress. That’s why we believe in celebrating Moms every day!
For so many mothers, this year is particularly difficult. Either they’re in isolation at home leading the charge on rethinking day-to-day life, and/or they’re juggling just got a whole lot more difficult — or both!
The Bluefin Bay Family of Resorts team celebrates all of the moms who are going above and beyond their normal heroics during this pandemic.
Moms: We see you, appreciate you, and THANK YOU!
Under normal circumstances, we love to help guests celebrate with Mother’s Day Brunch at the Bluefin Grille or a gift card so Mom can get a massage or pedicure at Waves of Superior Spa. Since that’s not possible this year, why not honor Mom with a getaway at one of her favorite spots on the North Shore?!
Honor Mom with a future getaway to Bluefin Bay
Moms are likely dreaming of the day they can shed the added responsibilities of this pandemic and get away for a little rest and relaxation. We want to help make that dream a reality!
When you purchase a Bluefin Bay Family of Resorts gift card for $200 or more before May 31, 2020, we’ll throw in a $25 dining coupon that can be used at either Coho Cafe & Bakery or the Bluefin Grille. So you give mom the gift of a future stay at one of her favorite spots, and we’ll treat you/her to $25 in dining.
This is one small way we can help you say “THANKS MOM!” This offer is good on gift card purchases between now and May 31, 2020. Though gift cards don’t expire, the dining coupons @ $25 must be used before Dec. 31, 2020.
Also, we always promise to make Mom’s future stay an enjoyable one by providing our special brand of warm and friendly hospitality.
To purchase a Gift Card with the Mother’s Day Dining Coupon, call us at 1-800-258-3346 before May 31.
And, to all the Moms reading this: Happy Mother’s Day!
