As a guest at Bluefin Bay or Surfside on Lake Superior, bike rentals for adults and kids are included as part of your stay. In addition, you can join in on a complimentary guided bike trip. Once again, we’ll be offering our popular Temperance River Bike & Hike. For this trip, we start off biking a 2.1-mile section of the Gitchi-Gami trail through the northern boreal forest. Once at the Temperance River, we’ll trek along the river on a short hike with views of beautiful waterfalls. Finally, a relaxing bike ride takes us back to Bluefin Bay. A mostly gentle down sloping path for an easy and rewarding way to finish the trip! This year, we’re adding another biking adventure to our activity schedule. The Onion River Bike & Hike will feature a 6-mile (12-mile roundtrip) ride along the paved Gitchi-Gami trail plus a short hike along the scenic Onion River.
The Lutsen-Tofte and Grand Marais areas have become known as a haven for bikers and biking events. The Le Grand Du Nord Gravel Cycling Classic is coming up this weekend, May 25th. Starting out at the Grand Marais harbor this gravel course climbs almost 6000 ft! Live music, Voyageur Brewing Company beer and the vibe of Grand Marais make this a fun event for bikers and spectators.
On June 29, the Lutsen 99er returns. Several thousand bikers from around the country gather to race through the pristine north woods of Cook County. The race is most known for its 99-miles of mountainous course. But, it has now expanded to include a 69, 49, 25-mile course options, and Sunday kids races.
In addition to the Gitchi-Gami paved trail that runs right to the Bluefin Bay properties, this area has incredible mountain biking opportunities. For single-track enthusiasts, check out the Sugarbush Trail Association Trails located just a couple miles from the resort and the Pincushion Mountain Biking Trails in Grand Marais.
We’re midway through May and looking forward to the unofficial kick-off to summer: Memorial Day Weekend! There is so much to love this time of year along the North Shore and here at Bluefin Bay Family of Resorts. Including, The Big Lake, the inland lakes, the trails, and the forests! We have it all up here and you could end a day having canoed on an inland lake or river, hiked a trail in the Superior National Forest, biked on the paved Gitchi-Gami trail, and skipped stones into Lake Superior. There really are enough activities to please the whole family.
A few of our favorite things in May:
We’re all ready for warm, sun-filled summer days. But, are your skin and nails ready for summer? If not, it’s time to visit Waves of Superior Spa. Plus, Mother’s Day is almost here! Treat Mom to a spa treatment, buy a gift card, or stop in to purchase an amazing Eminence Organics skin care product.
One of our favorite new spring products is the Lilikoi Mineral Defense Collection. These lotions and creams are designed to protect you from environmental stressors like the sun. In addition, they also protect your skin from blue light! Natural blue light comes from the sun but artificial blue light is from things like a computer, phone, and television screens. Additionally, this harmful form of blue light can contribute to hyperpigmentation, wrinkles and worsening skin elasticity. On the positive side, the Lilikoi Mineral Defense Collection helps protect your skin from these natural and artificial stressors.
Manicures and pedicures are a great way to get ‘Summer Ready’! Book your nail appointment to pamper those hands and feet. Or, combine it with a massage or facial for the total body experience. Spa manicures and pedicures include enlivening sugar scrubs, warm towel treatment, cuticle care, a softening masque, and a deep massage, plus foot filing for pedicures. Of course, these treatments are also topped off with high-end polish. It’s time to let those summer colors shine!
