February, 2012 @ Bluefin

Welcome to the blog of the Bluefin Bay Family of Resorts

Oberg Mountain was the place to be Monday afternoon. Lutsen Tofte Area Oberg Mountain

The Tofte Lutsen area received over a foot of fresh snow from Sunday's storm, and left the Superior Hiking Trail in pristine condition for a snowshoe hike. Bluefin Bay Family of Resorts group of guests on the daily tour were lucky enough to be the first to graze through the fresh powder on the mountain (as seen pictured right). Thousands of trees were left snow covered, which made for an amazing spectacle to snowshoe through. The clear sky made the lake as blue as could be.

Today some of our guests will enjoy another snowshoe through the snow filled Superior National Forest.

Last week we got our best snowfall of the year thus far, and it looks like that could easily be Snow on the Superior Hiking Trailtopped in the next couple days as up to 10 inches is projected to fall in the Lutsen Tofte area

The local groomers have been working hard and almost all of the cross-country ski trails have been groomed in recent days for both classic and skate skiing. Take advantage of Bluefin Bay Family of Resorts complimentary ski rentals and get and enjoy the winter!

Our friends at Lutsen Mountains have been hard at is as well, and 86% of runs are now open on the ski hill. Guests of Bluefin Bay Family of Resorts can still receive complimentary shuttle service up to the mountain starting at 9AM daily!

There are some snowshoe trails available and several guests have reported that they've found plenty of snow inland for snowshoeing. More trails should be ready for snowshoeing after this weekend.

Our activities staff has been working overtime and we are offering night hikes every weekend. Last weekend, those who went with our guide to Oberg Mountain were able to see the beginning of the Northern Lights, as well as a star-lit sky. Winter on Lake Superior's North Shore can't be beat.

Bluefin Bay Family or Resorts was at full capacity over the busy weekend, and our guests had a great time as usual!Winning Snow Sculpture

The ice rink was a popular attraction as some played hockey, while others skated, and many enjoyed complimentary s'mores at our camp fire areas.

Saturday night, those who gazed at the night sky between 9PM and midnight were treated to a series of green dancing Northern Lights.

Our third snow sculpting contest produced good results once again. Take a look at the Bluefin Bay sculpture pictured right which took first place! Nicely done!

Bluefin Bay's Volks Ski Team came in 2nd place last weekend out of a number of area resorts that particpated. Thanks for all who participated and helped us log some miles! We weren't able to defend our title, but we had a great time and still finished near the top.
