Sled dogs race up the North Shore

Yesterday sled dog teams and mushers from seven states and four countries began the running of the 27th John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon. It's time for the annual candlelight ski and snowshoe put on by the Sugarbush Trail Association and area businesses. XC Ski Trails Open

The local ski trails recieved about 15 inches of much needed snow over the Christmas Weekend, and are now being packed and groomed. Currently there is skiing out of the Britton Peak Trailhead as well as the Oberg Mountain Trailhead. Groomers are also currently out on the Picnic Loop and the Moose Fence system. 30 miles per hour winds have been blowing since last night at the north shore. The shoreline at the Bluefin bay is diminished by gigantic waves rolling almost to the lake walk. The gusty wind makes it really hard to walk and the best way to enjoy this beautiful Gales scene is inside- in your suite or Bluefin Grille, overlooking Lake Superior.
