As the Lake Superior waves crashed against the shore, the Bluefin Grille team and Guest Chef Stephen Trojahn, Executive Chef at Cosmos Restaurant and Graves 601 Hotel in Minneapolis, brought spring to life in a four-course dinner on Friday night and a five-course dinner Saturday.

A spring storm dumped about 10" of heavy snow on us early Friday morning. The snow was followed by very high winds and incredible waves. The day was grey and dreary but the huge waves made even the locals stop and take a second look. Many Guests try to plan trips up to see the big waves, some of them just get lucky.

Thanks to many days of sub zero temperatures and now calm winds, ice has come to the big lake.
Be careful though, it is very fickle. Here today and gone tomorrow.
Ice as far as you can see, with some building up on shore.
Just one day of a little wind and the ice is gone.

A 57 degree temperature change spelled trouble for most mushers competing in the 2008 John Beargrease Sled Dog Marathon. Monday temperatures pushed to near 40F, followed by rain. Tuesday brought gusting winds and temps dropping to -14F.Only 12 in a field of 27 mushers were able to endure and finish the nearly 400 mile race. Mushers will start the 400 mile marathon in Duluth, turn around at Trail Center (1/2 way up the Gunflint Trail) and return to Duluth with 10 checkpoints inbetween.

The mid distance race also starts in Duluth but will end right here in Tofte. A two day snow storm blanketed the north shore in another coat of white. Guests that ventured out during the storm broke trail and enjoyed the snow laden trees.








Once the snow stopped, groomers we out and the trails were back in shape in no time. XC ski trails are packed, tracked and providing excellent early season skiing.

Lutsen Mts. reports 34 runs open, more snow in the forecast and additional terrain opening daily.

Snowmobile trails have been groomed but a little more snow is needed to smooth out the bumps.
