Cross Country Skiing is Amazing!

With the current ski conditions you just cannot stay inside the house. Perfectly groomed trails, nice temperature, sunny skies, gorgeous trees around - what else could you wish for!

Twin Cities Live

Thank you to Wendy Weigel, the VP of Travel from AAA Minneapolis. She recently gave a very nice testimonial about Bluefin Bay on a Romantic Getaway piece on KSTP's Twin Cities Live TV show on February 17th.

Check out the video clip.

Got Snow? Yes We Do!

Snowshoeing near the Caribou River
As warmer temperatures brought rain and melting snow to much of Minnesota, conditions here on America's North Coast have remained outstanding. Since the warmer temps we have gotten 6 - 8 inches of new snow and trails are in great condition with a base of 20 inches. There is more snow in the forecast so this weekend should be another great weekend to get out and enjoy what winter has to offer. Hope to see you out on the trails soon!

Piles of ice

A thank you to Patricia Beach for sending us this great photo she took during her recent visit.

Ice on the big lake

Corner seat at the Bluefin Grille

The corner seat at the Bluefin Grille has a commanding view over Bluefin Bay and out into Lake Superior. Ice has come to the north shore ... most say big deal. But here on the north shore due to the very deep water and unprotected shoreline, open water is the norm.

Ice covered Bluefin Bay

As the currents and winds tug at the sheet of ice, it moves seemingly at random. The flat surface that was here yesterday is now broken into chunks and is starting to pile up near shore. The ice is here now, but look quickly it may be gone tomorrow.

The Snow is Piling Up!

We were treated to another evening snowfall. Sunday evening into Monday morning we received 8 - 10 inches of new snow, bringing our winter total to right around 90 inches.

After our most recent snow all of the snowshoeing trails are in great condition, and the ski trails are being groomed today. For updated grooming information on area trails please visit the Lutsen Tofte Tourism Association.
